About Tokojodo
We're an independent clothing brand dedicated to sourcing the highest-quality Indonesian batik and turning them into limited-run, handcrafted shirts. Our team is based in Queens NYC and Jakarta.
Our aim is to showcase Indonesian craftsmanship and artistry, while fairly compensating everyone in our supply chain.
Our batik is currently sourced in a few ways:

- Artisan Workshops, where most true batik is still produced. Run by one or two full-time employees, they add helpers when big orders come in, drawing from the local village or their founders' extended families.

- Batik co-ops, in which groups of local artisans pool their resources and production capacity. Their profits are commonly invested in local community improvement projects such as schools and infrastructure.

- Deadstock Batik is a great source of unusual patterns. In Indonesia, corporate clients will commonly place large annual orders for custom patterns from co-ops or workshops, and what doesn't get used is picked up by wholesalers. Their stock is full of hidden gems, and putting these batiks back into the market is a great way to minimize waste.
The majority of our shirts are produced with made-to-order batik from co-ops or artisan workshops, but we still like to include some patterns from wholesalers as well, when we discover something truly unique.
Our batik is made into shirts at two small tailoring shops – one in Jakarta, and one in Pekalongan, a traditional hub of batik production. Both have decades of experience turning batik into premium shirts.
