This is a really unique one. We found this material at a batik reseller in Pekalongan, and it is likely the remainder of a batch of batik commissioned for a corporate client that was having shirts made for their employees. While it has been made to a very high standard and is hand-stamped, it doesn't appear to follow any conventional batik motif that we can identify. We bought all of it, and these shirts are the result. Once they're gone, they're gone.
Origin
This shirt was made from deadstock batik surfaced in Pekalongan, Java, and sewn in Jakarta.
Material
100% cotton

About Our Shirts
Our shirts tend to run a little slim - if you are looking for a boxier, airier look, please order one size up. As is traditional for batik shirts, they are also lined with a breathable cotton lining; this to helps prevent sweat from discoloring the batik, and creates an air gap that can actually improve ventilation. Our buttons are color-matched plastic, with a covered placket, and the top (visible) button is made from coconut shell.
A Quick Introduction to Batik Ownership:
- Many of the dyes used in batik production are traditional plant-based formulas. To keep your shirt looking fresh wear after wear, it's important to treat it with care. The best option is to hand-wash your shirt with shampoo, but in a pinch you can also wash it cold in a washing machine. Line drying is best.
- Each shirt is also made from a single handmade batik – so a little variation in the pattern is to be expected. You may even find a little wax on your shirt, left over from its last dying cycle (see our batik guide for more on this process). It will disappear after your first wash.
