About Our Shirts
Our shirts tend to run a little slim - if you are looking for a boxier, airier look, please order one size up. As is traditional for batik shirts, they are also lined with a breathable cotton lining; this to helps prevent sweat from discoloring the batik, and creates an air gap that can actually improve ventilation. Our buttons are color-matched, with a covered placket, and the top (visible) button is made from coconut shell.
A Quick Introduction to Batik Ownership
Many of the dyes used in batik production are traditional plant-based formulas. To keep your shirt looking fresh wear after wear, it's important to treat it with care. The best option is to hand-wash your shirt with shampoo, but in a pinch you can also wash it cold in a washing machine. Line drying is best.
Each shirt is also made from a single handmade batik – so a little variation in the pattern is to be expected. You may even find a little wax on your shirt, left over from its last dying cycle (see our batik guide for more on this process). It will disappear after your first wash.
